What are you hungry for? Sunday Message Series: July 26 - August 23

Submitted by Rob on July 23, 2009 - 12:51pm.

What are you hungry for?

How you answer this question depends on you, and only you. No one can tell you what you are hungry for, it’s a primal feeling, so primal you sometimes don’t even know what you’re hungry for? The answer to the question is different based on your current state, do you have a physical hunger, emotional hunger, spiritual hunger? Which begs an additional question, how do you quench this hunger?

Jesus answered this way, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” Matthew 5:6

Righteousness?!, Now the question is even more complicated? For 5-weeks we will look at the following hungers . . .

July 26 – Wanting my own way.
August 2 – To be fed
August 9 – A miracle.
August 16 – Wisdom and Understanding.
August 23 – Strength to meet each day and every situation.

Message Series: Responsible Power - Suns. July 12 & 19

Submitted by Rob on July 8, 2009 - 5:18pm.

Feeling Powerless? Feeling overly burdened by responsibility? Join us as we take a look at this dangerous/hopeful word. Power refers broadly to any ability to effect change or exert control over either things or people, subjects or objects. Power can be used for good or ill, and the opposite is true too, illustrated by the following poem by Martin Niemoller:

“In Germany, they first came for the communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Catholic. Then they came for me -- and by that time there was nobody left to speak up.” Martin Niemoller

According to the Simon Wiesenthal Center, "Martin Niemoller was a Protestant pastor and head of the anti-Nazi Confessing Church. Arrested for 'malicious attacks against the state', he spent seven years in the Dachau and Sachsenhausen Released in 1945 by the Allies."

For two-weeks we will look at power and the responsibility we have when using/or not using it. Join us Sunday, July 12 and 19.

Message Series: 3 C’s of Faith - Calm, Caring, and Collected, Sundays 6/21, 28 & 7/5

Submitted by Rob on June 16, 2009 - 12:00pm.

We often idolize people who portray themselves as Calm, Cool, and Collected. However, who are the people who have had the greatest impact on your life? For me these people had two out of the three; they were calm and collected, but they were much more caring then cool, in fact a lot of them were pretty uncool.

No where in the Bible does it lift up a person in a positive manner for being cool – but there are countless people lifted up for being caring. Isn’t that what all of this comes down to, being Calm, Caring, and Collected.

Join us for this 3 week series as we learn how to live the C’s of Faith.

June 21: Calm – learning how to pray at all times and in all circumstances.
I’m not talking about spouting some flowery pious word, but simply being in honest conversation with God, including listening. Read: Luke 18:1, Romans 12:12, 1 Thessalonians 5:17

June 28: Caring – the greatest gift we can give and receive.
This is the foundation for life. God so loved the world, that God gave his only son. It is the ultimate proof that God cares for people through other people. Read: Matthew 25:31-39, Galatians 6:9-10, James 2:14-17

July 5: Collected – being in control, by knowing you’re not in control, God is. There is something amazing that happens when people come to believe that there is a power greater then themselves. This is what makes the first two C’s work, I don’t want to be cared for by someone who isn't calm – that simply leads to chaos. Read: Luke 6:27-38, Colossians 3:17, 1 Peter 4:7
