Eco Stewardship Weekly Green Helpful Hint # 11

Submitted by Tom Hatlestad on November 27, 2008 - 9:27pm.

Eco-Stewardship Green Helpful Hint #11 for the week of Nov 24th - Nov30th.

#11  Brita Announces Recycling Program For Used Water Filters

Brita to begin a U.S. recycling program for the hundreds of thousands of filters the company sells domestically each year. Although Brita had a recycling system in place for the filters it was selling overseas, apparently the company didn't feel like there was enough demand for a similar system among U.S. consumers. Thanks to pressure from citizen activists, the company has announced it is launching a U.S. recycling program where consumers can drop-off the filters at Whole Foods Market or mail them in. The plastic will be recycled toothbrushes and razors, and the activated carbon will be regenerated for alternative use.

1st Annual Spirit Garage Alternative Gift Fair. Sun. Nov. 30th

Submitted by Tom Hatlestad on November 12, 2008 - 6:59pm.

Think about it.  Given the opportunity, people all over the world want the same things for their families that you want for yours—enough food, a safe place to live, education, good health, clean water and air, and the ability to make decisions about their lives.

Living on a dollar or two a day drains energy and endangers health.  With just a few dollars you can make a difference in the lives of hundreds of families around the world.  Instead of giving more stuff that will soon be forgotten in a closet or toy box, make a difference with a gift of a day of school in the Holy Land, a share of a well in Bangladesh, cataract surgery in India, a goat for an orphanage in Honduras, life-saving vaccinations for kids in Kenya and many other items from our shopping list.

Pastor Rob will focus his message on Nov. 30 about finding a Faith filled Focus for Christmas and Not being Con$umed by Chri$tma$.

Do your shopping on Nov 30th!  The shopping list is attached to this event.
