Online Alternative Gift Fairs

Submitted by Tom Hatlestad on December 15, 2009 - 9:56pm.

The Spirit Garage Eco Stewardship small group would like to suggest some online options for giving to others this Christmas season in a lovingly and environmentally thoughtful manor.

Think about it.  Given the opportunity, people all over the world want the same things for their families that you want for yours—enough food, a safe place to live, education, good health, clean water and air, and the ability to make decisions about their lives.

Earth Day Clean Up at Loring Park

Submitted by john6481 on March 15, 2009 - 9:16pm.

Come help clean up Loring Park during the Minneapolis Earth Day Watershed Clean Up sponsored by the Minneapolis Parks Board!

Spirit Garage hosted the clean up at Loring Park last year and we were able to have 200 volunteers clean Loring Park and a 3 block area outside of the park!

Last year's city-wide Clean Up was ranked one of the best in the country by the Earth Day Network last year and over 2,800 volunteers at 25 sites removed more than 22,000 pounds of garbage in a little over two hours. It will be a neighborhood effort again this year with volunteers from local residents, neighborhood groups, businesses and churches to help clean the largest park in the Central Minneapolis community.

The Clean Up will take place on April 18th from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm.

Garbage bags and gloves will be provided but feel free to bring your own garbage pick up tools if you have them.

If you are interested in assisting in helping at the Clean Up of Loring Park, please sign up with Facebook or contact the Loring Park Site Coordinator Bo Johnston.

Be sure to check out Minneapolis Earth Day for more information and alternate sites (if you can't make the Loring Park site).

Eco Stewardship Weekly Green Helpful Hint #14 Try the bus sometime.

Submitted by Tom Hatlestad on December 17, 2008 - 10:36pm.

#14  Try taking the Bus sometime.

As the weather gets colder, traffic slows down and you see the bus flying by in the High Occupantcy lane or edge of the road, think about taking the bus.  Even try to use the park and rides.  Learn the Bus schedules in your area.  Then you can be riding one of those buses that fly by the cars sitting in traffic.
