WCC INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME 2008

The World Council of Churches (WCC) will welcome five young people (aged 18-30 years) to serve as interns in its Geneva offices from February 2008 to January 2009. Interns bring valuable experiences to the WCC at the same time as they undertake several modules of ecumenical learning.

The next 12 months' internship period begins in February 2008. In Geneva, the interns will be assigned to one of the WCC working areas. They will carry out their tasks in co-operation with programme staff and under individualized supervision. During their stay in Geneva each intern is expected to plan an ecumenical project to implement in his or her home context when they return in February 2009.

The next generation of interns' areas of work will be 1. the Decade to Overcome Violence; 2. youth and ecumenical relationships; 3. visitors programme/media relations; 4. faith, science, technology and ethics; and 5. just & inclusive communities.

Successful candidates are people committed to the ideals of the ecumenical movement, who will bring their energy, commitment and a fresh vision to their specific work assignment. Applicants must send, along with their application, background information about their church or Christian youth network that will help them in implementing their proposed ecumenical project.

Closing date for receiving applications for the five internships is 20 September 2007.

Christmas Decorations

This year, among the many things I've lost is my collection of antique glass Christmas tree ornaments. They can't be replaced, not only because they were rare and expensive to replace, but because each brought back a memory of a particular person, year or event. I considered not having a tree this year, or going the tinsel and popcorn strand route and adding one or two special ornaments each year - unfortunately, I'd have to live to 100 for that plan to work - or just accepting a monochromatic bargain bin look, as December's a bad time to shop for ornaments. Then it dawned on me that it was time to start a new tradition: I'm asking people to donate an ornament (you'll be guaranteed to be remembered each Christmas!) and I'm thinking of thanking everyone by catering a party, perhaps Twelfth Night (Saturday, Jan. 6)... that'll give me two weeks to figure out how to replace my lost music collection and equipment.

I have a tv cart and a bookcase from Elements that are free for the individual who comes to my apartment and assists me in carrying them down 3 flights of stairs to their vehicle. Original cost of each piece was $99, they are about a year old and are in good shape.

As many of you know, for the last year and a half I've been working on my first solo CD. It won't be officially released until later this summer, but I do have some "pre-release" copies available.

The record is called "Hanging By A Thread", and it features 13 never before heard at SG tracks and a new version of The Salvation of Mr. Jones (with Joe Savage on the pedal Steel...you gotta hear it!)

SafeJourney Program Needs Volunteers!

SafeJourney, a service of North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, needs volunteers to visit one-on-one with patients who are experiencing domestic abuse. Advocates provide a listening ear, support, safety planning, information, and referral. Advocates sign up for two shifts per month with very flexible scheduling. Training is April 8 and 22.
