Come Help Spirit Garage clean up our new neighborhood AND Loring Park!

As many of you know, Spirit Garage is taking a look this Lenten season at how we relate to God’s world around us.  As part of the Lent/Earth Day series, Spirit Garage will be hosting the 14th Annual Minneapolis Earth Day Watershed Clean Up at Loring Park!

The Minneapolis Earth Day Watershed Clean up is an annual event sponsored jointly by the Minneapolis Parks Board, the City of Minneapolis, and local park coordinators to draw attention to the water quality improvement needs of our lakes and the effect individual actions have on urban water quality.  Earth Day provides both a volunteer experience and environmental education to Minneapolis residents and park users who participate in the event.  The annual event involves cleaning up the major watersheds and parks in the City of Minneapolis.

Last year’s Clean Up was ranked one of the best in the country by the Earth Day Network.  Over 2,000 volunteers at 25 sites removed more than 17,000 pounds of garbage in a little over two hours.  The Minneapolis Parks Board is looking to improve on last year’s outstanding event!

It will be a neighborhood effort with volunteers from local residents, neighborhood groups, businesses and churches to help clean the largest park in the Central Minneapolis community.

The Clean Up will take place on April 19^th from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm.  Special events will include Toyota showcase of new Hybrid car models, educational sessions on water quality, and Minneapolis Park Board Naturalists to present programs relating to wildlife and pollution.
