Worship

Professor or Dr. Fredrickson had an interesting perspective.  He seemed to base it on relatively objective evidence.  I would consider linguistic translation more objective than emotions.

It would be interesting to hear his perspective or opinion on some verses in Romans 1 and some Old Testament passages.

My own thoughts are that God, of course, created people male and female.
That is obvious.  I tend to believe he kind of set things up and let them take their course but have no way of knowing what happened in any kind of detail.

It is also obvious that sex is the method higher animals, including humans use for reproduction.  Humans are also one of a seemingly small number of species that engage in sex for enjoyment.

There is a good deal of research that suggest that sexual preference is not entirely a matter of choice.  The extent to which sexual preference is a matter of choice is not clear to me.  It might vary greatly from person to person for all I know.  I wonder how biblical texts might read if modern research on sexual preference and the impact of genetics and hormones on its development had been available to early biblical writers.  I don't happen to believe God wrote or inspired every word of the Bible in the way someone might dictate every word of a document for later transcription.  I wonder how such research would have informed earlier biblical translations into English and other languages.

Hi Michael - I'm glad you enjoyed David's talk. I agree with much of what you said. He does put a whole new light to understanding the Bible literally; the problem is you need to go back to the historical and linguistic origins to truly have the literal meaning. Many translations out there are not literal, but filtered interpretations. Ultimately, may God have mercy on all of us! I trust deeply in Jesus' words on the cross, "Father forgive them, they know not what they do."
Yours in Christ, Rob
