NEW INFO: What to wear and bring:  Suggested clothes - Depends how advanced you go, tennis shoes or hiking boots, long pants, long sleeves for more advanced course, Bug and Tick Spray, Compass (can rent).

Join Spirit in Action for a local Orienteering event on Saturday, May 19th at Theore Wirth Park on the west side of Minneapolis.

Fun for Adults and Kids too.

What is Orienteering:Orienteering is the skill of finding your way through a series of checkpoints on an unfamiliar course using a map and a compass. Typically a course is set in a wilderness area and the participants are timed as they complete it. More info found at www.mnoc.org

When: Saturday, May 19, 2007, meet at 12:00 Noon - Look for a Black Honda Element with a Brazil Flag on it Where: Theodore Wirth Park, Minneapolis, MN  Meet at Theodore Wirth Park

Directions: Theodore Wirth Park is located at the western edge of Minneapolis. Take Highway 55 west out of Minneapolis to Wirth Parkway. Take Wirth Parkway south and watch for the O-meet signs.

The permanent courses start across Glenwood Avenue from the Lake Wirth beach parking lot (which is 300 meters east of the intersection of Glenwood and Wirth Parkway.)

Juniors Members (Under 20) $4.00
Adult Members $5.00
Non-members $8.00
PLUS
Compass rental is $1.00 a day. We also ask that you leave your car keys or an identification card as deposit until you return the compass. You may purchase an MNOC whistle to keep for $1.00. Due to hygiene reasons, we do not rent whistles.

Spirit in Action will meet in Lake Wirth beach parking lot at 12 noon. Bring your own sack lunch or Tom will bring his portable gas grill if you want to grill.
