Join us as we explore the first season of the new Battlestar Galactica and discuss the issues faith, morality, identity, and meaning which are major themes in the show. We will discuss how those themes relate to our own lives and faith gathering on Sunday Evenings from 6-8 pm watching 1 episode per week.
We will meet in the cinema room on the 2nd floor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 4100 Lyndale Ave S, Mpls. The cinema has theater seating for more than 30 people, LCD projector, DVD, and surround sound, so we’ll be able to see view the episodes in style. To sign up or to get more info, contact Ryan Torma at 651-238-8899.
Discussion Questions
1. Whad did you like or not like about the episode?
2. Apollo is questioning whether or not he did the right thing in destroying the passenger vessel the Olympic Carrier. Commander Adama tells him that ‘a man accepts responsibility for his actions, and lives with the consequences.’ In a difficult situation, how do you know if you’ve made the right decision? What do you think it means to live with the consequences of your actions?
3. President Roslin believes that leaders need to remember and learn from their mistakes. To remind her of this, she keeps a piece of paper with “Olympic Carrier” written on it. How do you or others remember decisions or mistakes in order to learn from them? How have you seen this done using objects of physical means?
4. Exodus 17:1-7 tells the story of how the Israelites had run out of water during the exodus. Through Moses, God provides water from a rock. Have you had an experience where you needed a miracle to get through? What was that like?
5. Do you think Chief Tyrol is doing the right thing by not reporting Sharon?
Why or why not? Have you ever been in a situation similar to the Chief’s? What was it like and how did you respond?
6. In this episode, we Sharon as both a pilot and possibly the one who planted the bombs. We also see Sharon struggle with how these events happen and who she might be. Have you ever been in a situation that challenged who you thought yourself to be? What was it like, how did you react?
