Join us as we explore the first season of the new Battlestar Galactica and discuss the issues faith, morality, identity, and meaning which are major themes in the show. We will discuss how those themes relate to our own lives and faith gathering on Sunday Evenings from 6-8 pm watching 1 episode per week.

We will meet in the cinema room on the 2nd floor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 4100 Lyndale Ave S, Mpls. The cinema has theater seating for more than 30 people, LCD projector, DVD, and surround sound, so we’ll be able to see view the episodes in style. To sign up or to get more info, contact Ryan Torma at 651-238-8899.

Discussion Questions:

1. What did you like or not like about the episode?

2. Number 6 tells Baltar that God has a plan for everything and everyone. Do you think that is true? If so, what do you think God’s plan is?

3. Baltar says he believes in a rational, understandable universe. Can you believe in God and in a rational Universe? What do you believe?

4. The pilots touch a picture when they leave the ready room.  What do you think it is? Have you seen other people in your own life interact with images this way or have you done so yourself? Why do you or others do this?

5. How are the memorial in the halls of the Galactica similar or different to other memorials you have seen? Have you ever made a memorial for someone? Why or why not?

6. Number 6 claims that procreation is one of God’s commandments. In Genesis 1:28 God tells humans to “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it.” How should we interpret this command today?

7. Number 6 makes a connection between God’s will and the arrival of the Olympic Carrier, and suggests that Baltar need to repent to be saved. Baltar repents and then the Olympic Carrier is destroyed. Do you think God or Baltar were involved in the destruction of the ship or do you think that this was coincidence? Why or why not? How do you understand repentance
and salvation?

8. Do you think destroying the Olympic Carrier was the right choice? In our own world, would it be right to shoot down an airplane that might be used in a terrorist attack? Why or why not?
