Desire – [ < Old French desirer, < Latin desiderâre < de- (off, away) + sîdus (star) ] A wish or longing; also, that which you long for.

It is a word used in the Bible to cover a wide range of human wants, emotions, and cravings. It can describe everything from simple requests to sexual longing, from hunger for God to craving for gold. Most desires fall into one of two categories: Divine Directives or The Devil’s Playground. How do you distinguish between the two? Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10).

Did you catch the pronoun; “They” which means it gives life to everyone and all God’s creation. That is the meaning of life, which is our purpose, which is why it is so important to be in community. But maybe you’re like E.B. White who said. . .

“I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.” E. B. White

I hope you’ll wake up Sunday morning with the desire to gather with others who are seeking meaning, purpose, and community; because whether we like it or not, we are all part of “They”!
