As part of the Lent/Earth Day series, Spirit Garage will be hosting the 14th Annual Minneapolis Earth Day Watershed Clean Up at Loring Park! The Minneapolis Earth Day Watershed Clean up is an annual event sponsored jointly by the Minneapolis Parks Board, the City of Minneapolis, and local park coordinators to draw attention to the water quality improvement needs of our lakes and the effect individual actions have on urban water quality. Earth Day provides both a volunteer experience and environmental education to Minneapolis residents and park users who participate in the event. Burn some of that pent-up winter energy and give back to the environment in the Recycle Run around Lake Harriet on Sunday, April 20. The event features a 5K Walk/Run and a Kids’ Half-Mile Run. Spirit Garage is looking for about 8 people (Teens - Adults, children are invited to come along) to help lead a Kid Time for Emerson Spanish Immersion Learning Center during it PTA meeting this Tuesday, April 22. Emerson is the school that allows Spirit Garage to use its parking lot on Sunday mornings. The children will be 3-10 year olds. We will be in the kindergarten rooms and on the playground. Thank you for a very successful event at Loring Park. Spirit Garage hosted and coordinated the clean up which had 198 volunteers! The total area cleaned included Loring Park, the Minneapolis Sculpture Gardens, and nearly a 3-block radius around loring park accounting for 165 acres. In a truly amazing act of community art-making, the story will take root and grow as hundreds of people from all walks of life come together, creating the glorious floats, banners, and masks for this year’s Parade and Ceremony. I'll be offering a free yoga class on 9:30-11 AM, Saturday, May 10. The class will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in S. Mpls. The class will include a short meditation and breathing exercise, as well as a traditional asana practice. Come dressed in comfortable clothing and be prepared to move.
