Whether it’s alcohol and drugs – or work, sex, exercise and attention – we all “worship idols.” What we expect to give us strength, leaves us feeling diminished...maybe even weak and defeated. All are invited to a reading and discussion group that will explore the relationship of human limitation to divine grace. Informational meetings will immediately follow Spirit Garage worship on 1/6/08 and 1/13/08. Meetings are seven consecutive weeks starting Monday, 1/21/08 at 7pm. For more information, contact Kevin Erickson (612-872-8791) or Dianne Dornquast (612-991-3533).

TBD, based on size of group.

Souper Bowl Sunday is truly reason to celebrate. Before many of us gather with way too many munchies to watch overgrown, overpaid, over(fill-in-the-blank) boys play the Super Bowl, come to worship on Sunday, February 3 and take part in a Souper Bowl that makes a difference.

The 2007 Spirit Garage Fantasy Football League will be making soup hoping you'll consider making a donation. Last year $8,172,584 was generated by all the groups who participated. Funds are given to the groups charity of choice, and this year it will be chosen by Joe Stuntebeck, owner of Job the 2007 Spirit Garage Fantasy Football Champion. Congrats Joe! Let's help him celebrate by joining in on the festivities of Souper Bowl Sunday.

Join us at our Ash Wednesday worship gathering as we remember our mortality and begin the Lent journey to Easter. We will gather 8 PM on Wednesday, February 6 at the Loring Park Community Art Center, 1382 Willow Street, Minneapolis 55403; the East Side of Loring Park. Parking is available at Emerson School, corner of LaSalle and 14th, entrance on 14th Street.

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent.  On this day, Christians focus on their complete sinfulness and the necessity of Christ's suffering and death to insure their salvation.  Ashes are referred to many times in the Old Testament as signs of sorrow, mourning, humility, and repentance, and on Ash Wednesday they are used to remind people of their mortality --  that "you are dust, and to dust you shall return" (Genesis 3:19).  Many churches use ashes during Ash Wednesday worship in a ritual called the Imposition of Ashes.  This is the beginning of 40 day journey to Easter, not counting Sundays.

Spirit Mechanics gather after worship on most Sundays, as Mechanics are available. During 5 Sundays in Lent, you're invited to try it out Sundays, February 17 - March 16. Prayer really is just a conversation between you and God, which makes group prayer more of a discussion. Come to listen, learn, and maybe try it out.  Simply gather at the left side of the stage following worship. For more information or questions contact Bethany McCaughan. There is also the opportunity to share prayers through email: spiritmechanics@yahoogroups.com
